Call for Art: Hidden in Plain Sight

Exhibit Overview: The show will feature within the Wayland Library’s annual Wayland Reads program. As this year’s program highlights book selections that concern the Gardner Museum heist and other art-based crimes, Arts Wayland has “framed” its show title within this greater programmatic theme.

The Wayland Library has designated display areas throughout its main level in which the work will be hung. The show will run March 17th through March 23rd, with a public reception after-hours on Friday, March 17th from 7-9pm.

Interpretation: Artists may interpret the show theme in a manner of their choosing.

Eligibility: Open to current members of Arts Wayland, as well as non-members. Members may submit up to two images for consideration, at no fee. Non-members may submit one image, for a $10.00 fee. All submissions must have been completed within the past five years and not have been included in prior Arts Wayland exhibits.

Selection Process: The event organizers will review all submissions and announce selections by 9pm on March 6th. Acceptance to the show is not guaranteed. The exhibit space allows for mainly small to medium sized works, with a few additional locations for larger works. Accepted works will be chosen by the event organizers, based upon space considerations and adherence to show theme. Subject matter must support the welcoming environment of the public library space. Final selections are made at the discretion of the event organizers. All decisions are final.

Preparing work for display: All work must be display-ready and wired to hang. No sawtooth hangers or clip frames. Smaller works should not exceed 20” in width, while maximum framed dimensions for larger works may not exceed 40”.

Selling work: Artworks may be for sale. 20% of any sales will be collected by the Wayland Library. Arts Wayland suggests an additional donation of 10% (members) or 20% (non-members) of any sales, to assist with exhibition costs.
