Lauri Rakoff-Chertok creates 2 dimensional abstract collages with cuttings recycled from pre-printed images. Removing the elements from their original context, she evokes a fresh emotional response to perpetual motion in both natural and man made environments. The viewer is challenged to closely study the details as the results blur the visual line between traditional collage and the visual image of a painted surface.
Her art is further influenced by her diverse creative background that includes commercial illustration and design in the fashion and cosmetic industries.
Lauri, a graduate of Parsons School of Design (BFA) and Rhode Island School of Design, is a signature member of the National Collage Society. Her award winning works have been exhibited in regional and national galleries, museums and sold to private collections throughout the country.
