My current series of paintings called “Lush Life” celebrates the swirl of life found in the streams, marshes, bogs and woods around me. The focus is the microview of the natural world with its rhythmic flow of vibrant colors, textures and random shapes.
This microview allows for a combination of both realism and abstraction of organic forms in their varying stages of growth. The chaos and order provided in the world around us offer a view into the energy, motion and flow of our lush life. Laurie Simko is a painter who works with oil on canvas or board, and explores a variety of subject matter. Her current work called “Lush Life” focuses on the swirl of life in the macro and micro views of the natural world.
Simko grew up in Massachusetts, and graduated from California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She worked as an art director and graphic designer in several advertising and high-tech firms in the Boston area, and started Simko Eye Design in 1996, a web and print, graphic design business. She currently has a studio at the Western Avenue Studios in Lowell, MA.
Simko is a member of the Copley Society of Art in Boston, MA, and has exhibited in many juried shows, including the Copley Society of Art, the Danforth Museum of Art in Framingham, MA, the Cambridge Art Association, the Concord Art Association, the Arts League of Lowell, the Brush Art Gallery, and the Whistler House Museum in Lowell, MA.
